Country guide
Finland
Generous tuition scholarships, a large English taught offer, and a long post study residence permit for job seeking.
- Study applications
- Work visa, if you already hold an offer
Finland charges non EU students tuition, then hands a large share of it back through scholarships that are awarded at admission rather than through a separate competition. A strong applicant can end up paying a fraction of the headline figure, so the sticker price is a poor guide to what Finland actually costs.
The English taught offer is large relative to the size of the country, particularly in technology, and universities of applied sciences run practical programmes with built in work placements.
Graduates can apply for a residence permit to look for work that runs for a substantial period, and Finland has been actively trying to retain international graduates rather than see them leave.
We cover Finland for study applications. We do not run a job search here, though we will prepare your work permit file if an employer has already made you an offer.

Already have a job offer?
We support work abroad for any country on this site, whether or not you already hold an offer. Where you have one, the work is the visa file. Where you do not, it is route selection, eligibility scoring and the search itself.
These are starting prices. Every package and every exclusion is on the pricing page, at the same figures quoted on a call.

Read this before you plan around it
Being in a shortage occupation is not eligibility. It usually changes a salary threshold, a points score or a processing queue, and it never removes the need to qualify. These lists are also revised often, so treat this as where demand has been concentrated rather than a promise about today.

The bigger picture
Costs that are not fees at all
| Tuition for non EU studentsScholarships are commonly awarded with the admission decision, often covering a large share of tuition. | Set per programme, frequently reduced by scholarship |
|---|---|
| Funds requirementShown for each year of study. Lower than Norway, higher than southern Europe. | A published annual figure |
| Residence permit feeThe electronic application is normally less expensive than a paper one. | A published fee, cheaper if applied for online |
| InsuranceThe required level depends on the length of your programme. Check the specification rather than buying generic travel cover. | Specified minimum cover |
| Living costsHelsinki is the expensive end. Tampere, Oulu and Turku are considerably cheaper. | High, though below Norway and Denmark |
Refusals
Why applications get refused, and what helps
- 01
Insurance below the specified cover level
What helps
Finland states a minimum cover amount and it differs by course length. Buy to the specification, not to a price. - 02
Funds shown for one year when more were required
What helps
Check whether your programme length requires funds for the first year or beyond, and evidence accordingly. - 03
Missing the single January application window
What helps
Most English taught programmes have one main intake. Plan the language test and documents around it.
Immigration rules change constantly, and a page like this is a starting point rather than an authority. Every figure here is approximate and every claim links to the government source that governs it. Before you commit money to any of it, check the current position, or ask us to check it against your profile.
