Country guide
United Kingdom
One year taught master's degrees, the shortest route to a foreign qualification, with rules that have changed repeatedly.
- Study applications
- Work visa, if you already hold an offer
The United Kingdom is on this site for study rather than work. A one year taught master's is the fastest route to a foreign qualification, and for some careers that speed is worth a great deal.
Post study work rights and dependant rules have changed more than once in recent years, in both directions. Anything you read about them, here or anywhere else, needs checking against the current published rules before you commit money.
We do not currently offer a work abroad service for the United Kingdom.

Already have a job offer?
We support work abroad for any country on this site, whether or not you already hold an offer. Where you have one, the work is the visa file. Where you do not, it is route selection, eligibility scoring and the search itself.
These are starting prices. Every package and every exclusion is on the pricing page, at the same figures quoted on a call.
Who is being hired
Occupations in demand in United Kingdom
- Nurses and midwives
- Care workers, under tightened rules
- Doctors and dentists
- Secondary teachers in shortage subjects
- Civil and structural engineers
- Laboratory and clinical scientists
Read this before you plan around it
Being in a shortage occupation is not eligibility. It usually changes a salary threshold, a points score or a processing queue, and it never removes the need to qualify. These lists are also revised often, so treat this as where demand has been concentrated rather than a promise about today.
Indicative, last reviewed 26 August 2026. The position that governs is on UK Home Office, work visas.
Routes
Ways into United Kingdom, and what each one needs
Route 01
Student visa for a taught master's
People who want a recognised qualification in twelve months.
Requirements
- An offer from a licensed student sponsor, with a confirmation of acceptance for studies
- English at the level the course and the visa rules require
- Proof of funds for tuition and living costs, held for the required period
- Payment of the immigration health surcharge alongside the visa fee
The bigger picture
Costs that are not fees at all
| Tuition for a taught master'sVaries widely by institution and subject. Compare the total, not the headline, and check whether the fee is quoted per year or for the whole course. | Published per course by each university |
|---|---|
| Proof of fundsLondon and outside London are different figures, held for a set period before applying. | Published per month and by location |
| Visa fee and immigration health surchargeThe health surcharge is a significant amount paid up front for the full length of the visa. It surprises people. | Published, and the surcharge is per year of the visa |
| Flights and first monthDeposits on student accommodation are usually required well before you travel. | ₹100,000 upwards |
Refusals
Why applications get refused, and what helps
- 01
Funds not held for the required period, or in the wrong kind of account
What helps
Read the financial requirement itself rather than a summary. The number of days the money must be held and whose account it can be in are both specified. - 02
A course that does not follow from your background, with no explanation
What helps
If you are changing field, say why in the application and be able to say it again at an interview. - 03
Documents not in the required format or not properly translated
What helps
The published guidance is specific about certified translations and about what a bank letter must contain.
Immigration rules change constantly, and a page like this is a starting point rather than an authority. Every figure here is approximate and every claim links to the government source that governs it. Before you commit money to any of it, check the current position, or ask us to check it against your profile.
