Country guide
Norway
Historically tuition free at public universities, now charging non EU students, with living costs that were always the real barrier.
- Study applications
- Work visa, if you already hold an offer
Norway was for years the outlier that charged no tuition to anyone, and that has changed for students from outside the EU. Public universities now set fees for non EU applicants, so any advice written before that change is misleading and there is a lot of it still online.
What has not changed is that living costs, not tuition, were always the binding constraint. Norway is expensive, and the funds you must place in a Norwegian account before the permit is granted reflect the real cost of a year there.
The compensation is a strong research system, a large English taught offer at master's level, and a labour market with genuine demand in energy, marine and engineering fields.
We cover Norway for study applications. We do not run a job search here, though we will prepare your work permit file if an employer has already made you an offer.

Already have a job offer?
We support work abroad for any country on this site, whether or not you already hold an offer. Where you have one, the work is the visa file. Where you do not, it is route selection, eligibility scoring and the search itself.
These are starting prices. Every package and every exclusion is on the pricing page, at the same figures quoted on a call.

Read this before you plan around it
Being in a shortage occupation is not eligibility. It usually changes a salary threshold, a points score or a processing queue, and it never removes the need to qualify. These lists are also revised often, so treat this as where demand has been concentrated rather than a promise about today.

The bigger picture
Costs that are not fees at all
| Tuition for non EU studentsA recent change. Treat any source that says Norway is tuition free for Indian students as out of date. | Now charged, set per institution |
|---|---|
| Funds requirementUsually transferred to the university's deposit account and released to you after arrival. It is your money, but you need it liquid and upfront. | A published annual figure, deposited before the decision |
| Permit application feeNot returned if refused. | A published fee, non refundable |
| Living costsThe real reason Norway is not the bargain a tuition free headline once suggested. | Among the highest in Europe |
| HousingSecuring it is normally a precondition of the permit, not an afterthought. | Student housing is limited and allocated early |
Refusals
Why applications get refused, and what helps
- 01
Funds not deposited in the required account
What helps
Norway generally wants the money in a Norwegian account or the university deposit account, not simply shown in an Indian bank statement. - 02
No housing arranged
What helps
Arrange accommodation before applying. It is a stated requirement rather than a recommendation. - 03
Relying on outdated tuition information
What helps
Budget for tuition. Plans built on the old no fee position collapse at the funds stage.
Immigration rules change constantly, and a page like this is a starting point rather than an authority. Every figure here is approximate and every claim links to the government source that governs it. Before you commit money to any of it, check the current position, or ask us to check it against your profile.
