Country guide
Switzerland
World class research at surprisingly low tuition, offset by the highest living costs of any destination on this site.
- Study applications
- Work visa, if you already hold an offer
Switzerland has two of the strongest technical universities in the world at ETH Zurich and EPFL, and their tuition is remarkably low, because Swiss public universities charge modest fees to everyone including international students.
The catch is everything else. Switzerland has the highest cost of living of any country covered here, and the funds you must demonstrate are correspondingly large. Admission to the top institutions is also genuinely difficult and the assessment of Indian degrees is strict.
Immigration is administered by the cantons rather than centrally, so the exact process, and sometimes the documents, depend on where your university is. Advice that treats Switzerland as one system is unreliable.
We cover Switzerland for study applications. We do not run a job search here, though we will prepare your work permit file if an employer has already made you an offer.

Already have a job offer?
We support work abroad for any country on this site, whether or not you already hold an offer. Where you have one, the work is the visa file. Where you do not, it is route selection, eligibility scoring and the search itself.
These are starting prices. Every package and every exclusion is on the pricing page, at the same figures quoted on a call.

Read this before you plan around it
Being in a shortage occupation is not eligibility. It usually changes a salary threshold, a points score or a processing queue, and it never removes the need to qualify. These lists are also revised often, so treat this as where demand has been concentrated rather than a promise about today.

The bigger picture
Costs that are not fees at all
| Tuition at public institutionsETH and EPFL charge modest semester fees even to international students, which is the single most surprising fact about Swiss higher education. | Low by international standards |
|---|---|
| Funds to be demonstratedSet to reflect genuine Swiss living costs and it is the real barrier for most applicants. | A high published annual figure |
| Health insuranceExemption with foreign insurance is possible in some cantons but not automatic. | Mandatory Swiss cover, and not cheap |
| Permit and residence feesDiffers between cantons, as does almost everything else about the process. | Set by the canton |
| Living costsZurich and Geneva in particular. This, not tuition, is what decides whether Switzerland is affordable. | The highest of any destination here |
Refusals
Why applications get refused, and what helps
- 01
Funds well below the cantonal expectation
What helps
Budget against real Swiss costs rather than a European average. This is where most applications fail. - 02
Degree not accepted as equivalent
What helps
Swiss institutions assess Indian bachelor's degrees strictly, and some require a completed master's for entry to a master's. Confirm equivalence before applying. - 03
Cantonal requirements missed
What helps
Read the requirements of the specific canton your university sits in, not a general Swiss guide.
Immigration rules change constantly, and a page like this is a starting point rather than an authority. Every figure here is approximate and every claim links to the government source that governs it. Before you commit money to any of it, check the current position, or ask us to check it against your profile.
