What CELPIP is, and what it is used for

CELPIP General is a Canadian English test, delivered entirely on a computer, and accepted for Canadian permanent residence and citizenship applications.

Everything in it is Canadian English: the vocabulary, the accents in the listening section, and the situations you are asked to write and speak about. That is where Indian test takers most often lose marks, not on grammar.

It is not widely accepted outside Canada, so it is worth taking only if Canada is your target.

What the weeks actually look like

This is the plan the batch follows. It is built to be survivable alongside a full time job, which is the constraint most course outlines ignore.

  1. Weeks 1 to 2

    Canadian English and the format

    Vocabulary, register and the accents in the listening section. A diagnostic so you know your starting CLB level.

  2. Weeks 3 to 4

    Writing the two tasks

    The email task and the survey response, which are unlike anything on IELTS. Marked submissions with a CLB estimate.

  3. Week 5

    Speaking, all eight tasks

    Every speaking task with recorded practice, plus your two one to one sessions.

  4. Week 6

    Full mock, then map to your score

    A complete computer based mock, then a session converting your CLB level into what it means for your Express Entry points.

    • CELTA, DELTA or equivalent teaching qualification
    • Has sat the test they teach, at the band they teach to

    Trainers here teach the test they have personally sat, because band descriptors read very differently once you have been marked against them. Batches stay small enough that speaking practice is actually possible.
