What PTE is, and what it is used for

PTE Academic is run by Pearson, delivered on a computer, and marked entirely by algorithm. Results usually arrive within days rather than weeks.

Because the marking is automated, it rewards a particular kind of performance: clear pronunciation, steady pace, no long pauses, and answers that follow a predictable structure. Some people score noticeably higher on PTE than on IELTS for exactly that reason. Some score lower.

Acceptance is wide but not universal, so check it against your specific universities or immigration route before booking.

What the weeks actually look like

This is the plan the batch follows. It is built to be survivable alongside a full time job, which is the constraint most course outlines ignore.

  1. Weeks 1 to 2

    How the algorithm scores you

    The scoring model, which response formats carry the most weight, and the templates that work because the marking is automated.

  2. Weeks 3 to 4

    Speaking and pronunciation

    Oral fluency and pronunciation drills, which the algorithm weighs heavily. Recorded practice with playback every session.

  3. Week 5

    Writing and reading under time

    Summarise written text, essay structure, and the reading formats that share scoring with other sections.

  4. Week 6

    Two scored mocks, then book

    Two full mocks with scored reports, then a targeted session on whichever enabling skill is dragging your score.

    • Has sat the test they teach, at the band they teach to

    Trainers here teach the test they have personally sat, because band descriptors read very differently once you have been marked against them. Batches stay small enough that speaking practice is actually possible.
